Why is Marian University's UBMS Program FREE for Its Participants?

Marian University’s Upward Bound Math and Science Program (UBMS) is a federally funded TRIO program that aims to support potential first-generation college students and/or those students who are economically-qualified.

The program focuses on helping participants transition from high school to college and pursue post-secondary degrees in their respective dream professions, particularly STEM-related fields. Here’s why UBMS is free for its program participants:

  1. Funding: UBMS receives funding primarily from the U.S. Department of Education. This financial support allows the program to provide its services at no cost to participants and their families12.

  2. Educational Support Services: Throughout the academic year and during a six-week summer academy, UBMS offers free educational support services in the following five areas:

    • Academic Support and Achievement: Assisting students in developing the necessary skills for success in high school and beyond.
    • College Enrollment Planning: Guiding students through the college enrollment process.
    • Career Exploration: Helping students explore potential career paths.
    • Financial Education: Providing knowledge about financial literacy.
    • Personal Development: Fostering personal growth and maturity.
  3. STEM Focus: UBMS primarily serves students interested in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Participants engage in collaborative, hands-on STEM activities that prepare them for college and professional settings1.

In summary, Marian University’s UBMS program is committed to supporting students’ educational journeys by offering valuable services without any financial burden to the participants and their families.
