The Upward Bound Math
and Science (UBMS) program at Marian University is preparing to host its third six-week
summer college preparatory sessions for local high school students. The summer
sessions will begin on Monday, June 22.
Marian’s UBMS program
serves eligible students enrolled in either Fond du Lac or Horace Mann High
Schools. It is primarily funded by the U.S. Department of Education, with additional
institutional support; which allows the program to provide its services at no
cost to participants and families. The program operates during the academic
year as well as the summer for a six-week period.
As students come daily to the college campus, they will participate in fun, hands-on, and
interactive courses in the subjects of Mathematics, Chemistry, Business Technology,
Spanish, Physics, Biology, and English. Various college preparation workshops
and learning activities will be conducted by Fond du Lac area educators and
several other professionals. Other learning
activities include college visits, business tours, and attending museums and
other attractions.
Overall, the
program’s main features include after school tutoring, college financing,
career exploration, college exploration, and personal development.
The program is still accepting applications; particularly from
local middle school students who will be graduating in June from 8th
grade. Parents and students will find additional information on the program’s
website: www.marianuniversity.edu/ubms.
