"Math and Science in Firefighting"

By: Tracy Abler UBMS is pleased to announce that the first program in the "Math and Science in My Daily Job"series is scheduled for: Wednesday, October 23rd at Marian University Stayer Auditorium from 6-7 PM. PRESENTED BY: Firefighter/Paramedic, Carl Bahr, from the Fond du Lac Fire Department Carl has been on the Fond du Lac Fire Department for the past 9-1/2 years. He received his Associates Degree from Fox Valley Tech for firefighting and then devoted an additional year to become a certified paramedic on the national registry. Students will have the opportunity to learn how math, chemistry, and physics are applied in: flame length and height, engine pump pressure, water volume in hose, flow rates, friction loss, rate of fire spread, spread distance, weather factors, burnt area and perimeter, among many other concepts. Additionally, Carl will demonstrate how math and science is used as a paramedic. Carl's presentation will be about 45 minutes in

Upward Bound Math and Science students of Fondy High, Fondy Central, and Horace Mann! We have a great night planned with something of interest for everyone. Your attendance is REQUIRED. "Ask the Professionals" Tuesday, April 15, 2014 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Marian's Stayer Dining Room This evening's program will feature a diverse CAREER PANEL of area professionals in careers to include:: Business Education Healthcare Management Information Technology Athletic Training Medicine Military Banking and Finance Biology Chemistry Computer Forensics Law Enforcement Nursing These invited professionals will be asked to share their individual journey and discuss their career paths. They represent many occupations and have achieved great success in their fields. UBMS Program Gearing Up for 2015 Summer Session

The Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) program at Marian University is preparing to host its third six-week summer college preparatory sessions for local high school students. The summer sessions will begin on Monday, June 22. Marian’s UBMS program serves eligible students enrolled in either Fond du Lac or Horace Mann High Schools. It is primarily funded by the U.S. Department of Education, with additional institutional support; which allows the program to provide its services at no cost to participants and families. The program operates during the academic year as well as the summer for a six-week period. As students come daily to the college campus, they will participate in fun, hands-on, and interactive courses in the subjects of Mathematics, Chemistry, Business Technology, Spanish, Physics, Biology, and English. Various college preparation workshops and learning activities will be conducted by Fond du Lac area educators and several other profession
